Earthquake kills about 500 people in Afghanistan

An earthquake was registered in Afghanistan. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the tremors with a magnitude of 6.0 occurred on the night of September 1, approximately 27 kilometers from Jalal-Abad and 200 kilometers from the capital, Kabul.

At least 500 people were killed and more than 1,000 were injured as a result of the earthquake, the Disaster Management Authority of Kunar Province, where, according to preliminary data, the greatest number of people died, said.

The search for victims and the removal of rubble continues. The authorities admitted that the number of dead and injured could increase.
